For most, summer means vacation. Whether your vacation meant a trip to Oregon or just a trip down the road to enjoy a Kansas event highlighted in the Kansas Tourism Sunflower Summer application, RCED works to improve Republic County quality of life so that you’re glad to come home.
To our family, it is fun to get away, but the best thing about going away is coming home. If you don’t feel that way, how can we improve our little corner of the world? One of the things that I like most about leaving town, is getting new ideas to bring back and implement in Republic County.
Some of the things that I learned from our 2024 vacation are:
- People are drawn to beautiful places and public art
- Locally grown and made items can be a visitor draw all their own
- Local businesses can turn into National businesses
- Repurposing industrial spaces can be worth it and interesting
- Telling your story is always important
- Outdoor beauty can be enhanced and draw to visitors
- Little things can make a place more interesting
- Urban areas fared worse in COVID recovery
- We forget the value of having access to rural mass transit
- Foundation fundraising can be as impactful to rural areas as Federal monies can be
Over the coming posts, I will discuss each of these top ten items in more depth. Check in again soon!
